Calligraphy

Adventures in Calligraphy (8 sessions)
Take a trip into lettering from the beginning of the first century to the present using quills and a variety of writing instruments to create contemporary projects. Each floral class is a hands-on experience where award winning designer Bob Soper assists you in creating a floral design. Bring basic floral tools to each class. Tools may be purchased at the ACEC office where you register.

Floral Design, Level I (8 sessions)
This Tuesday evening class is an ACEC tradition. Join Certified Master Floral Designer, Bob Soper and learn to arrange and care for fresh flowers. Make and take home creations each week. This class changes with the seasons but always teaches basic design rules, techniques, and more. Most supplies are provided but bring floral shears. MATERIAL FEE OF $100 IS NONREFUNDABLE.

Floral: Bows, Bows, Bows! (1 session)
The season for decorating with ribbons is here. Take this class and learn to make a Dior and Starburst bow. Also, take home a bow suitable for a wreath and learn to make a garland of bows to use on a tree. Gain the knowledge to create bows for weddings and parties! This class requires you to purchase a glue gun and ribbon shears. FEE FOR THIS CLASS IS NONRFUNDABLE.

Fragrant holiday greens and snowy white flowers fill this round centerpiece design. Suitable for a round table this arrangement adds a nice seasonal touch to many decors where red and green clash. Beaded Jewelry, Beginning (8 sessions)
Learn the basic skills to create original jewelry designs using beads and various types of wire. Classes include making wire links, use of memory wire and “Beadalon” coated stringing wire, headpins, crimping, and basic design skills. Students complete a matching necklace, earrings and bracelet set with materials supplied; then continue on with other projects with their own beads. MATERIAL FEE OF $20 IS NONREFUNDABLE.

Beaded Jewelry II
(8 sessions)

You've learned the basics. Now expand your design possibilities with new skills in beading. Learn multi-strand stringing techniques using Beadalon, how to use a wire jig to make your own ear wires, clasps, and ornamental shapes, how to do more with memory wire, and simple wire wraps for beads in this exciting and fun class. Beaded Jewelry, PMC Bronze Clay (8 sessions)
Learn a basic working ability in precious metal clay, using bronze clay. Layer PMC clay over a pre-made core. Learn to make a mold with two part silicone modeling compound and how to make exact geometric forms using paper patterns. Several projects are included in this class: rubber stamp pendant, textured earrings, an imprinted medallion with stone, and the final project is the student's choice. MATERIAL FEE OF $30 IS NONREFUNDABLE.

Knitting, Beginning & Intermediate (4 sessions)
Knitting is one of the most versatile crafts. It can be sturdy and practical or lacy and transparent. This class provides you with the basic skills and knowledge to begin creating your own projects. More advanced techniques are provided for the intermediate knitters. Intermediate knitters are welcome to bring along any project on which they are working. A pair of knitting needles and a small ball of yarn are included. MATERIAL FEE OF $10 IS NONRFUNDABLE.

Mosaics, All Levels (5 sessions)
Join Randy and create beautiful and functional GLASS mosaics to decorate your home and garden. Learn the ancient art of mosaic covering a variety of techniques as well as materials. Students learn to cut their own glass. No experience is necessary...just a willingness to experiment and have fun. Stained Glass

Stained Glass, Beginning (5 sessions)
How would you like to follow your artistic whims as you create a beautiful stained glass piece? This class introduces you to this artistic world. Instruction uses the copper foil method of assembly. Learn glass cutting, pattern preparation, copper foiling, soldering, and finishing. This course is a prerequisite for all other stained glass courses and includes all supplies and materials to complete one project. A MATERIAL FEE OF $35 IS NONREFUNDABLE.

Stained Glass, Intermediate/Advanced (5 sessions)
Continue to follow your artistic whims and advance your skills in flat and three-dimensional glasswork. This class provides instruction as well as an open studio where you can work independently or with instructor assistance. Instruction includes patterns for a variety of designs and construction techniques. A list of supplies is provided at registration. Cost of supplies varies ($50-$150) depending on what you already have. Prerequisite: Experience in glass cutting, copper foiling and soldering or completion of a beginner copper foil class. Prerequisite: Must have completed a beginning class.

Stained Glass, Using Morton Glass (1 session)
Learn to use the Morton system to improve the quality of your glass cutting along with increasing your speed. Also learn to cut and make several geometric shapes (diamonds, triangles, squares, rectangles, hexagons, octagons, etc.) which is helpful when doing copperfoil, mosaic and came projects. The quality of the work is accurate and outstanding. You may bring your system or use a system supplied by the instructor. Students MUST supply their own cutting tools. FEE FOR THIS CLASS IS NONREFUNDABLE.

Botanic Print Notecards (1 session)
Do you miss the colorful leaves of the north? Create your own colorful leaves with printer's ink. Enjoy the lush foliage that surrounds us by printing various leaves on paper. These may become works of art to proudly display as well as note cards. Use printer's ink and an assortment of papers. There is an abundance of leaves in our area with many different sizes, shapes, textures! Explore their nuances and delight in their reproduction qualities. Anyone can print beautiful leaves successfully! Create many leaf prints and then create note cards, stationery, invitations, gift tags, etc. by creative folding, gluing, embellishing. Enjoy making one of a kind creations! FEE FOR THIS CLASS IS NONREFUNDABLE.

Celebrate Seaweed (1 session)
This five-hour workshop introduces the diversity and uses of marine algae (seaweeds) collected from a field trip to a local beach followed by a classroom session. Join seaweed aficionado Heather Fortner who researched and wrote a book on the edible seaweeds of Hawaii. Expect to collect, identify, and press at least ten different varieties from the shore wash (red drift), learn which ones are edible and sample them, and then press the delicate ones onto paper to create a personal herbarium (identification guide) or unique greeting cards. Please note: Field trip takes place at a local beach and is dependent on weather and seaweed accumulation. Location to be announced the day before the class. Students incapable of beachcombing, may join the class later in the morning. You may bring a bag lunch. FEE FOR THIS CLASS IS NONREFUNDABLE.

Nature Print on Fabric...Reducing Size of Printing (1 session)
The Reducing Side of Printing. You are not guaranteed to lose weight in this but, lose color from dark fabrics! Examine the reductive way of printing on dark colors, by removing some of the dye pigment. It is easy and magical! Use real leaves and/or some rubber images to create designs on t-shirts or fabric for pillows, placemats, most anything you bring to class. You don't have to be able to draw as nature did all the design work. FEE FOR THIS CLASS IS NONREFUNDABLE

Nature Print on Fabric...Adding on Fabric (1 session)
Adding On: Printing on Fabric with fabric paint and dyes! Explore the use of color as we print from natural objects (real or molds) to create colorful t-shirts, a table runner and napkins, pillow case, apron, fabric suitable for framing or whatever you bring to class. Bring natural fiber (collon or linen) textiles and have fun creating designs and patterns. Those who were in the morning reducing class may choose to add color to areas lightened with the reduction method. Draw compliments wearing a hand-designed t-shirt or maze friends with a table set artfully printed by you. FEE FOR THIS CLASS IS NONREFUNDABLE

Looking for a hobby in crafts but not sure where to start? This class introduces you to crocheting, wire wrapping/sculpture, and basket weaving. Each week learn about products and work on a project. Eco Friendly Quilted Shopping Bag/Tote (Make & Take) (2 sessions) NEW
Make a 100; cotton, machine washable quilted tote bag with pockets. A kit is provided in hopes that the bag is completed during the two week class. Many fabric designs are available from which to choose. The bag is cut with a rotary cutter, mat and ruler. This tote can be one piece in a two-piece set of quilted luggage. The duffel bag is to be offered in the next season. Supplies are included. MATERIAL FEE OF $15 IS NONREFUNDABLE.

Learn about the sewing machine, bobbins, threading, trouble-shooting, stitches and what the uses of the different feet. Discuss pinning and cutting patterns, cutting with a mat and rotary cutter. Handicrafts for the Visually Impaired (8 sessions)
This unique craft class is specifically designed for visually challenged adults. We teach mainly basketry and macramé - both crafts that can be done by "feel". Students work at their own pace in a supportive atmosphere. Two instructors and several volunteers give individual attention as needed. INSTRUCTOR APPROVAL IS REQUIRED.

The Oriental Carpet...Unraveling the Mysteries (4 sessions)
Unravel the mystique of Oriental carpets. Study their history, origin, structure, dyes and designs. Learn how to identify, buy, sell and care for carpets by comparing examples of antique and decorative carpets from around the world in a comfortable Palm Avenue gallery. This four-week course will answer the questions you have always wanted to ask about this centuries-old art form. Refreshments will be served.
