Golf, Beginning (6 sessions)
Learn important golf fundamentals such as proper grip, stance, ball position, posture and body alignment. This class works on swing and body mechanics through golf drills that help you improve and enjoy the game. Some golf equipment is available free of charge. Students are responsible for purchase of range balls ($7.00-$10.00 per session). Students are NOT on an actual golf course.

Golf, Beyond the Basics (6 sessions)
This golf class reinforces the proper golf fundamentals. Time for fine-tuning, discussing the difference between practicing and playing golf, and discussing golf course management for different shots is available. The psychology and theory of encountered golf shots and selections is also explored. You should have your own golf equipment. Students are responsible for range balls ($7.00-$10.00 per session). Students may play on an actual golf course for the last two sessions depending on the season (course fee is $8.00-$15.00).

This class is for students who want to develop consistent ground strokes, angle volleys, lobs, and serves. All strokes are reviewed, and singles and doubles strategy and court movement are introduced. Class time focuses on intense ball machine drills, with game play, rules, and scoring gradually introduced as the class develops consistent execution of basic strokes. Enrollment is limited to eight students.

Fly Castin...Intro to Saltwater Fly Casting (1 session)
This class is for beginning fly anglers as well as enhancing the skills of intermediate and advanced casters. Emphasis is on rods, reels, lines, and specialized skills required of saltwater anglers, which are radically different from fresh water fly angling. FEE FOR THIS CLASS IS NONREFUNDABLE.

Kayaking...Floating Classroom (1 session)
Explore the area around Neville Preserve between Siesta Key and Casey Key by kayak. Paddle the kayaks through the shallow waters, examine and identify various types of mangroves and learn their importance. Encounter birds, fish, and the occasional porpoise and manatee. Learn about the old Mote Marine shark tank (now empty), walk on the beach at the old Midnight Pass and learn about the constantly changing shore line. Through handouts and old aerial photos, gain better understanding of the beautiful Sarasota area where land meets water. Class departs from Turtle Beach Lagoon on Siesta Key. Please note: Participants need to be able to swim, and to be able to sit in a kayak for approximately three hours, feel comfortable on the water, and be able to paddle. FEE FOR THIS CLASS IS NONREFUNDABLE.
Kayak rentals are now $25 per person, $40 for a double kayak ($42.80 w/tax) and includes delivery.

Scuba/Snorkeling (back to top)
Skill sessions take place in the classroom. Pool dives will take place at the Evelyn Sadler Jones YMCA. Students perform open-water dives all day on the final Saturday at a local beach or via boat. Students need mask, fins, and snorkel. Included in the course fee is use of top-of-the-line scuba gear: regulator, pressure gauge, computer, wetsuit, tanks, weights, Open Water Crew Pak, Log Book and application fee for certification card. eLearn Option is available
Safe Boating...Using GPS (2 sessions)
Learn how to operate your GPS - what the buttons do, what the screens show, and how to access the functions you need. A handheld GPS is used as the demonstration model, but all GPS receivers function similarly. By the time you complete this class, you can store waypoints into your GPS, activate them for navigation and use GPS to keep you on a safe, pre-qualified course of your choosing. Get some tips for choosing a GPS. Receive a copy of the USPS GPS Guide and a waterproof McGraw-Hill Captain's Quick Guide Using GPS to take aboard to remind you of the steps or to show another of your crew how to use your GPS.

Safe Boating...VHF/DSC Radio (1 session)
DSC vastly simplifies and improves rescue and routine call signaling - making it easier to make a call while the system frees up Channel 16 for essential communications. However, you need to know how to use it. This seminar answers those needs and explains basic VHF operation. A CD is included with a DSC Simulator that allows you to practice on your computer at home. A handy waterproof McGraw-Hill Captain's Quick Guide Using VHF is included with essential information that you should have aboard, which explains how to use the radio. FEE FOR THIS CLASS IS NONREFUNDABLE.

Safe Boating...Trailering Your Boat (1 session)
Trailering Your Boat explains how to select tow vehicles, hitches and trailers. It also explains how to safely and securely trailer your boat, launch and retrieve it, and how to operate and maintain your trailering equipment. The seminar comes with an excellent new book "Trailering Your Boat" written by Bruce Smith and published as a USPS Guide by McGraw-Hill. The seminar includes video segments provided by the US Coast Guard and excellent slide notes. FEE FOR THIS CLASS IS NONREFUNDABLE.
