Florida...A Short Social History (4 sessions)
Read and discuss journals, letters, short stories and two history DVDs. Discuss the readings and DVDs from the point of view of author; a sense of place-how is Florida depicted in each era? What do these stories reveal about the people who settle in Florida? What challenges do these characters face?

Our U.S. Constitution...History Remembered (6 sessions) NEW
Travel back in time and discover the stories of our nation's precious document. How did the misjudgments of the King of England and Colonel George Washington result in the seven-year French & Indian War? Was this the catalyst which led to our independence and eventually to our US Constitution? What were the adverserial relationships between our four earliest presidents and how were these conflicts resolved? Learn these answers and understand how the wisdom of our founding fathers in creating our US Constitution resulted in the survival of a fledgling republic into the world's "Beacon of Liberty."

Segway into the Past (2 sessions) NEW
The early-to-mid 1920's was a very special time in Sarasota's history. It was a period of tremendous growth in population, culture, and the arts. Join us for a very special exploration of residential and commercial downtown Sarasota, and learn how Sarasota evolved to become a vibrant community and the 'premier' showcase for live theatre in the state. The lectures move along 'effortlessly' with everyone aboard a Segway Personal Transporter. After a brief riding lesson, view 'up close and personal' some of the most interesting and least known historical buildings and locations. A maximum of 6 participants per session allows for personal interaction with the instructor and prime viewing opportunities. Participants must be able to easily stand for up to one hour at a time without assistance. Maximum individual weight is 220 lbs. Snack and drink provided during a short break.
