Creative Writing I: Exploring Basic Writing Skills (8 sessions)
This workshop is designed to address students' specific interests in creative writing. Class exercises and assignments are read aloud followed by an interactive discussion. Emphasis is on exploring basic skills in writing leads, descriptions, dialogue, scenes, and transitions with a focus on grammar and punctuation. Examples include short stories, memoirs, and feature articles from current publications. A pad and pencil are required for working in class.

Creative Writing II: Building on Basics (8 sessions)
Expand your creative writing skills. This class continues from Creative Writing I: Exploring Basic Skills with a focus on developing your individual style. In-class writing and at home assignments compliment your ongoing writing projects. Learn how to refine and edit your work. Also discuss query letters and publisher guidelines. Students are encouraged to complete a writing project.

If you are serious about writing fiction or creative nonfiction you need to acquaint yourself with the techniques generations of writers have used to bring their characters and stories to life. This seminar provides an understanding of these fundamental techniques and encourages the development of your individual style and creative expression. Learn how to develop believable characters and let them speak - and act - for themselves. Learn how to set the stage and make readers feel they are right there with your characters. Promoting Your Book (1 session)
This class is for self-publishers as well as those who have a publisher. When a book is submitted to a publishing house, the publishers want to know what the author plans to do to promote his or her book, and what kind of platform the author has. ALL authors, self-published or not, need to create a personal platform (be known to the world) to attract buyers. This seminar includes how to build a platform, what kind of promoting to do, and the time table for taking each promotional step.You may bring your lunch.
